Atelier XIII

ATELIER XIII was established in the beginning of 2015 and is an exhibition space (Contemporary Art Gallery) located at Panská 13 in Bratislava. The Gallery is led by the graphic designer and painter Juraj Ličko, and is primarily oriented towards the presentation of young and already established representatives of the Slovak painting scene. Beside exhibiting paintings, the space serves for community social activities. The scope of ATELIER XIII is to connect and present contemporary artists. The exhibition Serious Games brings two painters into dialogue. Jakub Strýček draws on the aesthetics of video games: his canvases evoke simulated environments and fragmented perspectives in which the subject dissolves into navigable positions. Denis Braun works with the iconography of war – weapons, landscape, and the body absorbed into systems of surveillance and intervention. His paintings extend beyond individual canvases: figurative motifs, abstract surfaces, and traces of violence coexist in a state of permanent contamination.
